A roomier anorak can be pulled on over a sweatshirt and never pulls anywhere. Vintage Industries Orleans has exactly that cut, a large kangaroo pocket and taped seams, so water does not get through the stitching. A 5,000 mm membrane and 3,000 g/m² breathability cover longer rain too.

Waterproofing and breathability

The water column handles the rain that catches you on the way from the car as well as on a full-day hike, and the breathability moves moisture outwards so you do not overheat under the layer. It is the combination you appreciate in transitional weather, when drizzle and sunshine alternate through the day.

Ripstop that stops the tear

A reinforced yarn is woven into the fabric in a regular grid. When the material catches on something, the tear stops at the nearest grid line and goes no further. That is exactly why ripstop is used for field gear.
