Kubotan

Are you concerned about your safety and looking for a small, discreet tool for your defense? That is exactly what the Kubotan is for, also known as Yawara. It was originally developed for police forces, and it is still used by them today. Takayuki Kubota is considered its inventor, who first introduced this self-defense tool in the 1960s.
How to choose the right kubotan?
The shape is always the same, pencil-like. When you grip the Kubotan in your fist, at least 2 cm must stick out on both sides. So if your palm were, for example, 10 cm wide, the total length of the kubotan should be at least 14 cm.

How to use a kubotan in practice?

  • the basic point, as mentioned above, is to grip the weapon in a closed fist, with the ends protruding
  • overall, this grip will make your fist firmer
  • strikes then follow from one side or the other

You should aim at the most sensitive spots, which include:

  • the neck (from both sides, or the Adam's apple)
  • the face, especially the eyes
  • the groin
  • the thighs
  • the hands
  • the stomach

All of this will cause the attacker, while not necessarily bleeding all over, to feel truly incredible pain, we can guarantee that. With a good hit, you may not even need to strike more than once.

Where to carry a kubotan?

An important rule with this defense tool is that you should not carry it somewhere in a handbag, backpack, or buried in a bag. You must always have the kubotan close at hand, so you can react in time to a potential attacker. For example, on your keys or just loose in your pocket.
Advantages:

  • a small, practical helper for self-defense
  • multiple options for a strong strike
  • discreet, yet very effective
  • can be attached to keys
